Creating a WhatsApp Business link takes a minute. Getting it in front of customers is the part that actually brings in conversations. Most businesses put the link in one place β usually the Instagram bio β and stop. This guide walks through every channel where a WhatsApp link earns its place, with the specific pre-filled message to use in each so you always know where a lead came from.
First: one number, many links
Before placing anything, decide on your strategy. The best approach is a single WhatsApp Business number with a different pre-filled message per channel. Every message identifies its source:
| Channel | Pre-filled message | |---|---| | Website | "Hi, I'm on your website and have a question" | | Instagram | "Hi, I came from Instagram" | | Facebook page | "Hi, I found you on Facebook" | | Google Business Profile | "Hi, I saw you on Google" | | Email signature | "Hi, following up on your email" | | Printed materials | "Hi, I scanned your flyer" |
Generate each variant in under a minute with our free tool: create your free WhatsApp link. Same number, different text β and free attribution without any analytics software.
1. Your website
The website is where intent is highest. Three placements work together:
- Floating chat button in the bottom corner of every page. Use the website chat button builder to generate the code, paste it before the closing body tag, and it appears site-wide.
- Contact page with a prominent "Chat on WhatsApp" button alongside phone and email.
- Product and pricing pages with a contextual link: "Questions about this plan? Chat with us."
Set the message to reflect the page when possible ("I'm looking at the Premium plan"). Also add the link to your footer so it's on every page even without the floating button.
2. Instagram
Instagram allows exactly one clickable link in your bio (or a link-in-bio page), plus link stickers in Stories. Put the WhatsApp link directly in the bio if WhatsApp is your main sales channel β every extra tap through a link page loses people. Our step-by-step guide: add a WhatsApp link to your Instagram bio. For Stories and Highlights, see add a WhatsApp link to Instagram Stories.
If your Instagram and WhatsApp Business accounts are both connected to a Meta Business account, you can also add a native WhatsApp button to your profile via Edit profile β Contact options.
3. Facebook page
Facebook offers a "WhatsApp" call-to-action button on business pages (Page β Edit action button β Send WhatsApp message). Use it β it sits right under your cover photo. Additionally, pin a post with your wa.me link and a clear reason to message, and put the link in the page's About section.
4. Google Business Profile
Your Google listing appears when people search your business name or category on Maps. In the profile editor, you can add a WhatsApp link under the messaging or website fields depending on your region and category, and you should mention it in the business description: "Message us on WhatsApp: wa.me/β¦". Customers searching on their phone are one tap from a conversation.
5. Email signature and newsletters
Add a small "Chat on WhatsApp" line to every employee's signature with a link. For newsletters, place the link near the call to action β "Reply here or message us on WhatsApp". Email readers are often on desktop, and the same link opens WhatsApp Web there, so nothing is lost.
6. Paid ads
- Meta ads: Choose the "Click to WhatsApp" objective, or use a regular link ad pointing at your
wa.meURL with a pre-filled message naming the campaign ("I saw your spring offer"). Click-to-WhatsApp ads often cost less per lead than form ads because the friction is lower. - Google Ads: Use the WhatsApp link as the final URL on mobile-only campaigns, or add it as a call-out on the landing page.
- TikTok: Bio link plus a QR code or link in the video caption's comment.
7. Invoices, receipts and order confirmations
Every document you send is a support touchpoint. Add "Questions about this invoice? Chat on WhatsApp" with a link whose message includes the document type: "Hi, I have a question about my invoice". On PDF invoices, include both the link and a small QR code.
8. Printed materials
Anything physical needs a QR code β nobody types a URL from a poster. Generate one with the WhatsApp QR code generator and put it on:
- Business cards (see WhatsApp link and QR on business cards)
- Flyers and brochures
- Shop window and counter
- Product packaging and hang tags
- Vehicle branding
- Event banners and slides
Print the short text version of the link next to the code as a fallback.
9. Your WhatsApp Business profile itself
Within WhatsApp Business, go to Business tools β Short link. WhatsApp will give you a wa.me/message/β¦ link and a QR code tied to your business profile, with an optional default message. It's convenient and works well in messaging contexts β but a standard wa.me/<number> link with a custom message per channel is more flexible for tracking sources.
10. Bio fields everywhere else
LinkedIn, YouTube channel description, Pinterest, X, Telegram bio, Etsy shop announcement, marketplace profiles: any field that accepts a URL can hold your link. Fill them in once; they work for years.
Keep it consistent and maintained
- Use a single wording for your call to action across channels ("Chat on WhatsApp") so customers recognise it.
- Keep a simple spreadsheet of every placement and its pre-filled message so you can update or audit them.
- If you ever change number, you'll need to update every placement β one more reason to keep the list.
- Set up greeting and away messages in WhatsApp Business so the first reply is instant, even at 2 a.m.
A link is free, but attention isn't. Put your link where your customers already are, give each placement its own message, and you'll know within a week which channels bring the conversations that matter.
